Rolex Submariner 16618 Review

If you are a luxury watch enthusiast, you are familiar with the Rolex Submariner. Having made its debut in the early 1950s, it is the first timepiece designed specifically for the sea. The unique design enables it to remain resistant up to 330 feet, and a rotating bezel helps divers keep track of the time spent underwater. Rolex ensured everything was dialed to perfection by adding luminescent details for visibility in the dark waters. Over the years, this unique piece of artistry has undergone many improvements, and Atlanta Luxury Watches can help you get the most suited to your style and personality.

If you walk into any watch store, you’ll be surprised at the range of colors, materials, and design details the Rolex Submariner line offers. Let’s look at the special edition, reference 16618, which is an improvement of the gold Rolex Submariner.

History

After it debuted in 1953, antique models featured bidirectional bezels, time-only dials, and stainless steel. However, that eventually changed because of Rolex’s continued improvements to the timepiece, increasing popularity among divers and collectors. The Submariner received a date mechanism on its dial, improved luminescent material, increased depth resistance to 1,000 feet, and a modified bezel with a unidirectional mounting, among many others.

The Swiss brand released ref. 16618 in the 1980s, and it was the first gold submariner. This made it the most sought-after timepiece of all luxury watches. If you are not a fan of the six-digit Rolex Subs in the market, this might be the gold watch for your collection. It features the popular old-style bracelet and case, making it the perfect balance between vintage and modern design.

Underwater

The Submariner ref, 16618 luxury watches were designed as Rolex’s complete 18k yellow gold offering from the time it debuted until 2010. It bore the original traits of the iconic diver’s timepiece–resistant to 1,000 feet, 40 mm Oyster case, unidirectional diving bezel calibrated to sixty minutes, magnified date window, and Oyster bracelet. The only difference was the yellow gold case and bracelet, rather than the conventional stainless steel.

The dials shine brighter than other Submariner luxury watches because of the sapphire and diamond gems dotted around the dial as hour markers. If you want to know more about this unique line of Rolex timepieces, consult our professionals or visit our watch store online or in person.

New Generation

The Swiss brand has made many advancements to the Rolex Submariner ref. 16618, and the ref, 116618, now replaces it. The new version features similar case size and movement but with more significant hour markers and hands and an upgraded ceramic "Cerachrom" bezel. Rolex produced the timepiece with a blue (116618LB) or black (116618LN) bezel and dial.

In 2020, it bowed out to pave the way for a brand-new collection of Rolex Submariners. You are guaranteed quality and top-notch craftsmanship regardless of your preferred timepiece from the famous Rolex Submariner line.
